Its TIME! My First Android Application

[The Making …. … ]

Okay so I guess I have this obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).. that whatever be the importance of something in my life .. If this something is not working right or the way I want it to work.. I take things under my control…!! 😛 Funny thing but We are who we are right.

Recently I was exploring the available Applications in the Market. I came across a few good ones (FREE applications).

1) I just love the  “VOCABULARIUM“.
(it is Simple, has this amazing word list which keeps updating and then you can Mark Favorite Words for later review, Shuffle the word list and a great Slide Effect between words)

2) GRE/SAT Helper_Demo
(Not a big FAN. Not a very beautiful application but has around 5000 words as it claims)

3) GRE Droid Lite
Offers Quiz. Flashcards. The Demo version promises just 20 Words and yesh they are Twenty. And that’s it! But there is an feature to load external word list. Specify a Delimiter Like a Colon ( : ) & you are good to go. Load a List.

This application gave me an idea to Create a Word list of my own. So here is what I did.

1# Searched for GRE-High-Frequency-WORDLIST

2# Found it here.

3# Copy pasted into “gedit” to find it was haphazard. So I pasted it in the OpenOffice.org Spreadsheet. Turned on REGEX and REPLACED all “\n” by a Space. Good to go? Not yet. CTRL+A & Right-Click & Default Formatting. Yeah Looks nice.

4# Now I wanted a DELIMITER. Say COLON. & not a Spreadsheet instead. So I saved it as CSV! 😀 Sudden Epiphany. And Viola. It gave me an option to EDIT FILTER. Checked! So I put the Delimiter as Colon & Text one as Blank. All Good.

[Mahn Vodafone 3G Zoo-Zoo ad totally kills it! 🙂 Airtel you listening?]

This is the final thing I created: GRE-High-Frequency-Wordlist

Okay So I happily connected my Phone thru USB, Copied the CSV and opened the App! Yesh it still had this option to load the the text file. Well it didn’t magically disappear… you know things happen.. world’s most powerful Law .. the MURPHY’s LAW is always in PLAY.

I turned the Application to focus and tried to load this file. But it won’t allow me.. 😐 . Says it wants a Text File (.TXT). Okay darling. ASTRO > EDIT > COPY > EDIT > PASTE > DOT TXT. 😀

ACT – II.
Okay i tried to IMPORT it. And yesh LOADING. .. . Okay DONE!! 😀 yay!

BUTTTTTTTTTT!!!! 😐 It shows only 20 Words. DAMN you.

I AM MAKING MY OWN Application.

(rejoice people.. Won’t Charge a dime!)
